Deputy Mayor Joins Oakwood Court to Celebrate Sussex Housing & Care’s 80th Anniversary
The Deputy Mayor of Haywards Heath joined residents, families, colleagues and members of the local community at Oakwood Court on Tuesday 3 November to celebrate 80 years of Sussex Housing & Care.

The special celebration formed part of a programme of events taking place across Sussex to mark eight decades of providing housing, care and support to older people. Guests enjoyed a morning of memories and reflection, including the organisation’s ‘80 Years, 80 Voices’ project, which brought together residents and staff to share words reflecting its values and community spirit.
A highlight of the occasion was the planting of a commemorative time capsule in the grounds of Oakwood Court. Filled with photographs, messages and mementoes, the capsule captures a snapshot of life at Sussex Housing & Care in 2026, giving future generations the opportunity to discover what life was like today. Cllr Abdul Bashar, the Deputy Mayor of Haywards Heath, was honoured to take part by planting the time capsule.

The anniversary provided a wonderful opportunity to recognise the dedication of everyone who has contributed to Sussex Housing & Care over the past eight decades, as well as the residents and communities at the heart of its work.
The Deputy Mayor was delighted to join Oakwood Court in marking this significant milestone and celebrating the organisation’s lasting contribution to older people across Sussex.
