Volunteer with the Glendale Rangers and help to improve your local green space. It's free and no experience is required. We supply all tools and gloves. Refreshments available afterwards.

The task at Scrase Valley will be cutting back vegetation and helping the New Friends of Scrase Valley Orchard to care for the orchard. Please wear clothes suitable for outdoor working and sturdy shoes.

Tours by members of the Messel family at 11am, 1pm and 3pm

For a deeper dive into the Messel family, visit the Messel family flat as featured in BBC2’s ‘Hidden Treasures of the National Trust'. The flat was created in the 1990’s by Alistair Buchanan, Messel family representative at Nymans from 1987-2024. Visit the flat in the old stable block where his mother and uncle, Phoebe and Rudolph Messel, used to ‘play house’ as teenagers with their cousins Anne and Oliver Messel. Inside Alistair commissioned an extraordinary and whimsical series of murals to entertain his future grandchildren. Some of the murals were created by his cousin Victoria Messel. The flat, which has stunning views of Nymans on both sides, also shows off his vivid colour sense with its brightly painted walls. Untouched since the mid 1990’s, the flat now houses a collection of family memorabilia, including paintings by renowned artist and theatre designer Oliver Messel, illustrations by Victoria Messel, bespoke furniture commissioned from Alistair’s son-in-law Antony Haston who studied at Central St Martins and many objects that were once in the main house at Nymans. The flat is still used by the Messel family and on the tour, you'll meet current family members who will be delighted to share further stories with you about their talented and creative family.

Jumbo Ensemble are back for their fourth year in The Dream Centre at Chailey Heritage Foundation.

Featuring musical theatre favourites from Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia, Spamalot, Beauty and the Beast, Hairspray and many more, the show is sure to be a foot-tapping extravaganza!

There are two evening shows and a more relaxed Saturday Matinee.
'Relaxed' showings allow for those with higher sensory needs to enjoy the music with no pressure.

There will be a fully licensed bar and a fundraising raffle.

All funds raised will support the children and young people at Chailey Heritage Foundation.

Join us for a lovely walk starting at Lindfield common with a stop off at Little Broomsticks Coffee Garden for coffee, cake (included) and a chance to connect. The route will be a loop with the chance to stop off at Lindfield park on the way back.

You'll see many of our Champion Trees and learn about the influence that the Messel family had on the gardens, whilst having the opportunity to ask our experts your questions.

Please check in at Visitor Reception on arrival. The tour will start outside at the Hub.

Please wear suitable footwear as the tour may leave the paths. The tour takes place outdoors so please wear appropriate clothing for a 90-minute walk. This tour goes up and down steps and slopes.

Dogs are not permitted, apart from assistance dogs.

The MSFBS will be kicking off the year with our usual Retrouvailles: a glass of wine, a very short AGM and a short film in French.
As this is the first meeting of the year, all memberships have lapsed and members will need to rejoin, at a cost of £22 for the year.
If you are new to the group and speak French, we would be delighted to have you!

A seven week, face-to-face, local community course supporting people recovering from separation or divorce. 'Restored Lives' explores the legal, financial, practical and emotional challenges that follow relationship breakdown. Confidential, non-judgemental and led by local people with first-hand experience of relationship breakdown. The small group course costs £55 and includes a two-course meal each Monday evening, a workbook, companion book. Weekly from 12 October - 23 November.
