On Monday 15th June 2026, the Deputy Mayor of Haywards Heath attended a special celebration at St Peter & St James Hospice to mark the official opening of four new continuing healthcare beds.

The event recognised a significant milestone for the hospice, which continues to provide specialist care and support to patients and their families across the local community. The addition of four new beds represents much more than increased capacity; it will enable greater access to compassionate, high-quality care for those who need it most.
Cllr Abdul Bashar, the Deputy Mayor of Haywards Heath, joined hospice staff, volunteers, supporters and partners in celebrating the achievement, recognising the dedication and collaboration that made the expansion possible. The new facilities will help ensure more patients can receive the comfort, dignity and specialist support they require during challenging times.
As part of the celebrations, attendees reflected on the progress made by the hospice in recent months and the vital role it plays in supporting local families. The opening of the new beds stands as a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together in support of an important cause.
The Deputy Mayor congratulated everyone involved in the project and thanked the staff, volunteers, supporters and partners whose continued commitment helps St Peter & St James Hospice provide outstanding care to those who need it most.
