St Catherine’s Hospice opened their doors of its brand-new facility in Pease Pottage on Friday 27th June, to give Cllr Duncan Pascoe, the Mayor of Haywards Heath, a tour of their facilities and for him to witness firsthand the compassionate vision taking shape within the walls of this state-of-the-art building.

The new hospice, nestled in the peaceful surroundings of Pease Pottage, has been purpose-built to provide specialist care and support for people living with terminal illness and their families. During the tour, their guest was shown the thoughtful layout of the facility, which balances clinical excellence with warm, comforting spaces designed to feel like home.
Key features of the new building include private patient rooms with access to outdoor gardens, family-friendly communal areas, and dedicated reflective and therapy spaces. The design reflects St Catherine’s long-standing commitment to dignity, choice, and comfort at the end of life.
Cllr Duncan Pascoe commented: "It was a privilege to be invited to St Catherine's Hospice to hear about the incredible support and services they provide to people with life-limiting conditions across Sussex, including Haywards Heath. Hospice care is a really important service, providing comfort and dignity to the people that need it. Jemma gave me an excellent tour of the new facility at Pease Pottage and explained how quality of life is the top priority for St Catherine’s hospice. I could tell they take quality of life seriously, as I was shown many of the wellbeing initiatives, activities and mindful spaces for supported people and their families. In addition to in-patient care, they also offer home visits to many residents across Sussex. Like many hospices, funding is a significant challenge as the government only provides partial funding, so I was pleased that Haywards Heath Town Council could provide a small grant towards their services. I look forward to continuing the positive relationship we have built with the hospice and I am grateful to all the support they deliver to residents of Haywards Heath."
St Catherine’s Hospice has served the local community with unwavering compassion for over four decades, and the opening of the new site ensures that it can continue - and expand - its essential work for generations to come.
Today’s tour was not just a glimpse into a new building, but a celebration of community spirit, resilience, and the power of kindness. As the hospice prepares to welcome patients in the near future, there’s a shared sense of pride and purpose in what lies ahead.
