On Wednesday 25 March, our Town Mayor paid a special visit to the Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare, gaining a first-hand look at the incredible work the charity does to support animals and the local community.

Hosted by Chief Executive Stephanie Smith, the Mayor - Cllr Duncan Pascoe - was given a guided tour of the centre, learning more about Raystede’s commitment to animal welfare, education, and community outreach. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to explore how the charity continues to make a meaningful difference across the region.
Education is at the heart of Raystede’s mission. The charity works closely with local schools, delivering outreach programmes that help young people understand responsible pet ownership and animal care. In addition, Raystede collaborates with local veterinary practices, strengthening support networks for pet owners throughout the town.
A recent and exciting development is Raystede’s new charity shop in the town centre, helping to raise vital funds while also increasing awareness of their services. The organisation is particularly passionate about supporting pet owners with practical advice and education, ensuring animals receive the care they need.
One of the key themes highlighted during the visit was the importance of fostering. Raystede encourages members of the community to consider fostering animals where possible. This initiative plays a crucial role in supporting pet owners who may be temporarily unable to care for their animals due to health challenges or difficult domestic circumstances, ensuring pets remain safe and well cared for during those times.
Cllr Duncan Pascoe praised the dedication of the Raystede team and the positive impact they have on both animals and people. The visit was a strong reminder of the vital role charities like Raystede play in promoting compassion, education, and community support.
