Creativity was in full bloom as the New Friends of Scrase Valley Orchards invited local primary school children to take part in an exciting logo design competition.
The initiative aimed to find a fresh new logo for the group, while also giving young people in the community a chance to showcase their artistic talents. Pupils from St Wilfrid's, St Joseph's, Blackthorns and Northlands Wood all rose to the challenge with enthusiasm, producing a fantastic range of imaginative and thoughtful designs inspired by the orchards.
The New Friends of Scrase Valley Orchards is organised by a group of local volunteers, and holds a partnership with The Bentswood Hub, helping to provide freshly picked fruit for their community larder to support local residents.
The winning design and school were chosen by local people of all ages, making it a real community effort. The presentation took place at St Wilfrid’s School on Thursday 26th March, where awards were given out by the Town Mayor, Cllr Duncan Pascoe, along with Sylvia Harris and Anna Starkey of the New Friends Group.

During the presentation, the Mayor gave a speech thanking the school for taking part and praising all the entrants for their creativity and effort. He also expressed his appreciation to the café volunteers and everyone who supported the competition.
St Wilfrid’s School received the John Harris School Award, and the winning designer was Willow Kember, who will now work with a local professional designer to bring the final logo to life.

The standard of entries was impressively high, making the judges’ task no easy one. Congratulations to Willow, and to Scarlett who received the second prize. Well done also to Isabelle, Gabriella, and Aaliyah in recognition of their excellent designs.
The competition was a wonderful example of community collaboration, celebrating young talent while supporting the work of the Friends of Scrase Valley Orchards. A member of the group said: “We were really impressed by all the entries – the children did an amazing job. It’s been a great way to get young people involved and connect with the wider community.”
The group is now looking forward to revealing the finished logo and continuing their work in the orchard.
