On Thursday 4th June 2026, the Mayor of Haywards Heath attended an Interview Skills Workshop at Woodlands Meed College, helping students develop the confidence and skills needed to succeed in future job interviews.
The workshop gave students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) the opportunity to practise answering interview-style questions in a supportive and engaging environment. Working in pairs, students took part in an activity similar to speed dating, with each student having five minutes to answer questions while their partner took notes. They then exchanged feedback before swapping roles and moving on to another table.
Cllr Duncan Pascoe, the Mayor of Haywards Heath, was invited to take part in the sessions, meeting a number of students and hearing about their interests, ambitions and career aspirations. He was impressed by the confidence and enthusiasm shown throughout the workshop and enjoyed seeing the students develop their interview techniques through constructive feedback and practice.
Reflecting on the event, the Mayor said he had high hopes for the students' future employment prospects. He noted that many of the students came across exceptionally well and already had a clear understanding of the types of work they would like to pursue.
The workshop highlighted the important work being undertaken by Woodlands Meed College to prepare students for life beyond education, equipping them with valuable skills and confidence for the workplace. The Mayor thanked staff and students for making the afternoon both enjoyable and inspiring and wished the students every success in their future careers.
