On Saturday 1st August 2026, the Mayor of Haywards Heath attended the Kanga Trail Launch Event at Beech Hurst in support of his Charity of the Year, Kangaroos.

Hosted by Kangaroos, the Kanga Trail is an annual community event that invites residents to explore Haywards Heath and discover a series of large kangaroo sculptures, each uniquely decorated by members of the charity. The trail celebrates creativity while raising awareness of the fantastic work Kangaroos does to support children and adults with learning disabilities.
The launch event marked the start of the trail with a fun-filled afternoon of entertainment and activities for all ages. Families enjoyed a variety of stalls and interactive experiences, including making their own kangaroo ears, trying out musical instruments, playing football and taking part in martial arts activities with local organisations.
Cllr Duncan Pascoe, the town Mayor, officially welcomed visitors with an opening speech, thanking Kangaroos, the volunteers, sponsors and everyone involved in bringing the trail to life. Fully embracing the occasion, he spent the day wearing his own pair of kangaroo ears as he met families, explored the activities and celebrated alongside attendees.
With glorious sunshine and a fantastic turnout of children and families, the event was a wonderful success and a fitting launch for this year's Kanga Trail. The Mayor thanked everyone who attended and encouraged residents to enjoy the trail over the coming weeks while supporting his Charity of the Year and the incredible work of Kangaroos.
