Saturday 9th May marked a truly special milestone for the beloved Beech Hurst Miniature Railway, as the community came together to celebrate its 75th anniversary in style. With bright sunshine overhead and a lively atmosphere throughout the park, the day felt like a perfect tribute to decades of cherished memories.

The celebrations were officially opened by the Town Mayor, Cllr Duncan Pascoe, who delivered a warm and thoughtful speech congratulating everyone involved in the railway’s long-standing success. Praising the dedication of volunteers past and present, the Mayor highlighted the railway’s importance as a local treasure that continues to bring joy to generations of families.

Following the speech, the Mayor had the honour of cutting the ceremonial ribbon, marking the beginning of the day’s festivities. He then took the very first ride of the anniversary event aboard the railway’s oldest steam train, which had been beautifully decorated for the occasion. The sight of the historic engine in full celebratory display was a highlight for many attendees.

The afternoon saw an incredible turnout, with tickets priced at just £1, making the experience accessible for all. A long queue quickly formed, filled with excited children and families eager to enjoy a ride. Laughter and anticipation filled the air as the miniature trains carried passengers along the track, continuing a legacy that has delighted visitors for three-quarters of a century.

With the sun shining and spirits high, the anniversary celebration was not only a reflection of the railway’s rich history but also a reminder of its enduring place at the heart of the community. Here’s to many more years of Beech Hurst Miniature Railway bringing smiles to faces young and old.
