Deputy Mayor of Haywards Heath, Cllr Abdul Bashar, was invited along to join in the creativities. The event brought together care home residents, school children and teaching staff, who all gathered with a shared purpose — to create, connect, and celebrate community across generations.

Led by two talented local artists, the workshop invited participants to use wool and templates to craft beautiful framed collages. Residents and children sat side by side, sharing stories, laughter, and creativity as they worked on their pieces - each collage a symbol of collaboration and connection.

The “Time Together” theme was felt deeply throughout the event, as generations came together not only to make art but to build meaningful relationships. These moments of interaction helped break down age-related barriers, nurturing empathy and understanding between young and old alike.

Oakwood Court’s involvement in National Care Home Open Week reflects its commitment to fostering a strong sense of community and wellbeing for residents. By welcoming schools into the home, the event demonstrated how care settings can be vibrant hubs of joy, learning, and shared experience.
