On Friday 30th May, the West Sussex Library Service marked an extraordinary milestone - its 100th anniversary - with a joyful Centenary Tea Party held at Haywards Heath Library. The afternoon event brought together community members, dedicated staff, and volunteers in a warm celebration of a century of learning, connection, and service.

Among the honoured guests was Deputy Mayor of Haywards Heath, Abdul Bashar, who joined in commemorating the rich history of the library service and extending heartfelt thanks to the many people who help it thrive - especially the volunteers who give their time and energy to keep the library at the heart of local life.
As the West Sussex Library Service looks ahead to its next chapter, the Centenary Tea Party served as a poignant reminder of what libraries truly represent: more than just books, they are places of welcome, discovery, and community.
Here’s to another 100 years of stories, support, and shared knowledge!
