The 80th Anniversary of VE Day
Thursday 8th May 2025

Haywards Heath proudly commemorated the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day on Thursday 8th May with a day filled with community spirit, remembrance, and celebration. The main event, held at Victoria Park, brought together residents, local groups, and dignitaries to honour this historic occasion.
The day began with a respectful ceremony, featuring the raising of the VE Day Flag at the Town Hall.
At midday, Town Council Officers, accompanied by West Sussex Fire Service and members of the public, observed the two minutes silence at the War Memorial. A wreath was laid by the Town Clerk as a mark of honour and respect to those who lost their lives.
The evening festivities began with a parade departing from Haywards Heath Town Hall at 5.30pm, making its way to Victoria Park, where the celebrations continued.
Themed around victory and all things British, the event included:
-
Performances by Burgess Hill Marching Youth, PTC Arts Academy CIC, Ariel Company Theatre, and The Spinettes
-
Food vendors, a licensed bar, rides, games, and crown colouring for all ages
-
A shared national moment as Haywards Heath joins communities across the country
The celebrations concluded with the lighting of the beacon at Victoria Park, followed by renditions of the National Anthem, and I Vow to Thee, My Country.
