Town Mayor, Cllr Howard Mundin, had tremendous fun joining in activities with the children when he visited the Tree Tops Holiday Club at St Wilfrid’s, part of the Government’s HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) programme.

Town Mayor, Cllr Howard Mundin, comments:

What a marvellous morning I had joining in the fun with the children and seeing one of the Tree Tops Holiday Clubs in action. These clubs provide support for parents over the holidays knowing their children are safe, happy and well fed, while the children get the chance try a range of different activities, learn new skills, make new friends and enjoy healthy food. I was so impressed with way the Tree Tops team (of Angel, Karen, Laura and Charlotte) were super vigilant with the children while ensuring they were having such a great time, it truly felt like a happy family unit at a fun holiday camp!

The level of safeguarding and training that goes into the staff at these clubs is superb. I witnessed them caring for children of all different levels of ability and with a range of needs, but everyone was comfortable, secure and enjoying themselves. The whole day was such tremendous fun and the food available felt just like a mini restaurant, with such an amazing range of healthy and tasty food on offer. What a great facility to have for our school children over the holidays. I would like to say a big thank you to Charlotte and her Team at the Tree Tops Holiday Club and to all the wonderful children who made my visit so special.”

The Government’s Holiday Activities and Food programme, which is supported by England footballer Marcus Rashford MBE, is targeted at children and young people who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals. The aim of the programme is to make free places available to children eligible for and in receipt of free school meal.

The HAF programme has provided healthy food and enriching activities to disadvantaged children since 2018. Since November 2020, the scheme was expanded across the whole of England and the programme currently covers the Easter, summer and Christmas holidays for 2021. Non eligible participants can also provide the clubs with prices available on the organiser’s websites. For more information visit https://www.treetopsclubs.co.uk/
