The Mayor of Haywards Heath was honoured to attend and talk at the Charter Lunch to celebrate the 60-year anniversary of the Lions in Haywards Heath. During the event the Lions were presented with an award of appreciation from the Lions Zone Chairman, Pete Dilloway and appointed their new president of the Haywards Heath Lions, Gwen Kennedy.
Town Mayor, Cllr Howard Mundin commented:
“The Lions in Haywards Heath provide such tremendous support to our local charities and causes and I was truly honoured to be able to celebrate their 60th anniversary with them. We should all applaud them for the charitable service they provide locally such as their annual swimarathon, their Deaf Aid and Recycling for Sight programmes and their brilliant Message in a Bottle scheme, which makes it very easy for the Emergency Services to locate a vulnerable person’s medical information.
I know that our community in Haywards Heath particularly look forward to seeing the HH Lions Father Christmas float going around the town raising funds for vulnerable families and children at Christmas time but I was saddened to hear that they are struggling to get new members to help them continue with the brilliant work that they do. I know first hand the benefits of volunteering and helping your local community, so if you are able to spare a few hours to help them or if you wish to join this wonderful group of volunteers, please visit their website or Facebook page and get in touch. You can also visit the Lions stall at one of our community events in Haywards Heath where they regularly raise funds for local causes and are always happy to have a chat.
Congratulations to the Haywards Heath Lions on their 60 years of service to our community and I hope you join me in sending a very welcome to Gwen Kennedy, the new president of the Haywards Heath Lions.”
