Haywards Heath Best Kept Garden reveals new Family Allotment Award and two Special Awards for 2018

The Best Kept Garden competition in Haywards Heath gained a new Allotment category with an award being given to the Kabaivanov family for Best Family Allotment. The allotment was singled out by a committee member after witnessing the children getting involved and adding to the character and delightfulness of the family plot. The new category of Best Family Allotment will continue to encourage more families to embark on gardening projects together and more children involved in the allotments in the Town.

Mr John Awcock and Sandra Westmoreland from the Bentswood area won the Best Kept Garden in Haywards Heath for their stunningly beautiful garden and insect friendly planting. Nick and Sandra Monk won the Best Kept Allotment award for her beautifully kept allotment in America Lane. Cafe Rouge were once again winners of the Best Commercial Business Garden for their colorful display on their business frontage and outdoor seating areas and Winnals Park were awarded the best Communal Gardens for 2018.

This year, the Haywards Heath IN BLOOM Committee were also delighted to present special awards to Elizabeth Norman, Mayflower Court Nursing Home Manager, for her outstanding work and commitment to the gardens in the nursing home and to Mr John Ellis from Ashenground ward, for his amazing garden with so many varieties of planting. A special award also went to Leaders in Haywards Heath for their continued support of community gardening projects and the donation towards free poppy seeds for children at the Town's annual Spring Festival.

Cllr Sandy Ellis, Haywards Heath Town Councillor and Chairman of the Haywards Heath 'In Bloom' Committee said:

"The standard of gardens and allotments in Haywards Heath continues to be really outstanding. There were some impressive entries and this made the judges jobs very difficult this year. 

We are particularly delighted with the new Family Allotment category as gardening is such a beautiful experience for young and old alike, it is healthy, outdoors and teaches a love of nature and all the fun and enjoyment of growing your own flowers, fruit and Vegetables. Congratulations to all the winners in this year's Best Kept Garden competition - a full list of winners in all categories will soon be available on the Town Council website."
